Ao Haru Ride

aoharuride2

Yoshioka Futaba has a few reasons why she wants to “reset” her image & life as a new high school student. Because she’s cute, she was ostracized by her female friends in junior high, and because of a misunderstanding, she couldn’t get her feeling across to the one boy she has ever liked, Tanaka-kun.Now in high school, she is determined to be as unladylike as possible so that her friends won’t be jealous of her. While living her life this way contentedly, she meets Tanaka-kun again, but he now goes under the name of Mabuchi Kou. He tells her that he felt the same way as she did when they were younger, but now things can never be the same again. Will Futaba be able to continue her love that never even started from three years ago?

Avelys Rating: 7/10

Avelys Notes: (First Impression) I found this manga extremely enjoyable in the beginning. Art, writing, everything else was expertly crafted. Normally I find myself annoyed at the non-nonsensical dramas, but they were explained briefly after, summarized and completed explained. Some things were stretched, but we can just blame that on youth. The characters did things I wanted them to do and I was moved by the romance. I wish the lead girl would be more impressive and not so typical (although the attempt to be different is there). I wish she would be more of a girl to that really warrants all this attention.

(As the manga went on) I felt like it was dragging on way too much. It got really frustrating. They introduced a love triangle that was completely useless. Nobody was rooting for this other character. I don’t think it was handled well. The ending was very sweet –a satisfying conclusion. The ride was anything but a spring ride. Quite bumpy in fact. On another note, the anime was very well done. Excellent adaptation.

  1. What about the movie? Is it worth watching? I saw it has lower scores than the anime
