Heroine Shikkaku

HeroineShikkaku

This could be any girl. Imagine being a heroine of a love story. Hatori also believed that one day she would get married to her childhood friend, Rita. But that’s not how the world works! This is a hilarious comedy that honestly paints a painful unrequited love story of this young girl!

Candy’s Rating: 7-9/10 (I fluctuate because of reasons below)

ACTUAL SCORE: 8/10

Candy’s Notes/Rant:Warning, I’m spoiling the ending

Okay, don’t be confused by the score, I adore this manga, but I absolutely HATE the ending so my score on it fluctuates like that. The reason I adore this manga is because our main girl is soooo far from the typical shoujo heroine, and that’s how it was meant to be. She would be more like the mean spirited best friend who always causes drama. She’s a bitch and she doesn’t care. She wants Rita and she doesn’t mind trying to steal him away from his girlfriend once she notices that she’s no longer the heroine to her own story. Her antics and faces are freaking hilarious and I never got tired of them. I legit was rooting for her to steal Rita away, even though it’s such a catty thing. Especially since his girlfriend was so nice and and actually cared about Rita. She didn’t deserve anything that happened to her. But then comes in our second male lead Kousuke. He’s so fabulous, like I literally can’t. He was originally a playboy looking fr entertainment, pretty stereotypical, BUT THEY MADE THE CUTEST COUPLE, I LEGIT COULD NOT EVEN DEAL! They were both using each other, so it was a win-win for both of them, and Rita was happy with his girlfriend. If only it was that simple. The seeds were planted in Rita before Hatori and Kousuke started dating, and insert the drama. It was really well done though. They had misunderstandings, but Kousuke would legit not try to trip about it, like when Rita kissed Hatori. It was soooo sweet.

But then, one the two couldn’t see eye to eye on something, which led to doubts that piled up and caused some big ole mess that made me not read the last chapter (unfortunately I already know what happens because I looked it up out of pure rage). Now the thing is, the ending fits perfectly with the story. It would have been a cope out to end any other way. It matches what the characters thought and felt overall in the manga. Both Rita and Hatori are so flawed, and both make such dumb choices, that they are entirely human and easy to relate to. Like you’ll get mad why they do the things they do, then you’ll ask yourself what you as an actual human being would’ve done. That’s why I love this manga. It’s not about perfect stereotypical characters following the same contrived plot, it’s about actual humans fumbling their way through romance. I get salty when my boy doesn’t win, so don’t let that deter you, just know, you’re probably gonna be screaming WTF at the end of it and calling everyone dumb as F.

END SPOILERS

Art is gorgeous and compliments the hideous faces Hatori makes and the side characters are rememberable. All in all, a really good manga that mixes comedy, drama, humanistic nature, and romance.
