Kira, a shy high school student, lives only for her art. Rei, An arrogant, rebellious and violent playboy, wears his delinquency like a badge of honor. They are exact opposites in every way, but when Kira sees Rei kissing a statue of Mars, she overcomes her fears and asks him to model for her. And, to everyone’s surprise, Rei agrees.

Avelys Rating: 9/10

Avelys Notes: Unforgettable. One of my favorite manga. I found the story to be very well written. The characters were fleshed out with appropriate character development. Which is also welcomed. I thought the romance wasn’t over the top, but realistic and very heart warming. The struggles these two have to overcome feel like any other couple’s struggles. Fear of being separated, cheering the other on in their own success, protecting one another, being misunderstood. The drama didn’t feel forced. I found myself hooked and not able to stop reading. I once stopped myself to re-evaluate my thoughts on the manga and thought “Wow–is it really this amazing?”  I like how you won’t find any of the stereotypical shoujo scenes. This manga deals with mature themes like having: a dark past, family drama, suicide, violence, etc. My favorite scene is when the male lead helps the female lead with a traumatic experience and overcoming the results of that past.  It was a disturbing back story that helped them build their relationship and grow as people. I also like how the female MC breaks from the norm and actually has her own goals instead of just “living for love”. Which is not necessarily bad but it’s nice when a girl has her eyes on something other than her boyfriend. In the end, my only qualms would be that I wish it had a better ending, but overall a great story. I highly recommend if you want a honest portrayal of a relationship without that horrible forced drama. The story is dramatic, of course, but at least it follows a normal sequence of events and not just thrown together randomly.
