When 30-year-old Daikichi returns home for his grandfather’s funeral he meets an unfamiliar child in the garden. His mother explains that Rin is his grandfather’s illegitimate daughter by an unknown mother. The girl is an embarrassment to all his relatives and nobody wants to take her in because of the scandal. Annoyed by their attitude, Daikichi decides to take care of Rin himself, even though he is single and has no experience raising a child.

Avelys Notes: I started reading this manga and was completely smitten with the main characters. Their dynamic was so well done. This awkward young man doing his best to raise this curious little mind. They’re not blood related but our MC takes it upon himself to take her in. It gave me all kinds of feels reading this. Put into pretty realistic situations, our MC tries to do his best to tackle each obstacle. His personality is pretty charming so all we can do is root for his success in the sidelines. As the story goes on and you see their relationship develop, you learn new things about each of them and how they turned up the way they did. I want to take a second to talk about the ending, which I personally feel wasn’t very good. Without spoiling, I felt like the mangaka wanted to write a twist ending to maybe boost sales of her books or just wanted to surprise her readers–whatever the reason… there are things that just won’t fly. I don’t know if it’s because of the western mentality that certain things should not be okay (I’m trying really hard to be vague here LOL). Anyways, the ending turned out to upset a lot of people so this is just a warning. As for the anime, I only heard good things about it so I might give it a try. I’m still too scarred to watch the anime because of this manga ending but I’ll give it a try nevertheless 🙂 I highly recommend this manga if you like stories about parenting and growing up. If you’re looking for a sweet and heart warming story, this is for you. Ignoring the ending, this was really well written.

I agree with you, regarding the ending of the mango (and the second half of the story). It just felt so out of place and, for me, it brought down a really good first half.
You should watch the anime. It only adapts the first half of the story!
