Kitajima Maya, a 13-year -old girl with a talent for acting, was discovered by the reclusive actress Tsukikage. The story follows Maya’s growing up, intense training, overcoming challenges, and evolving into the foremost actress of her generation (she is about 20 so far). Maya’s greatest rival is Himekawa Ayumi, the beautiful daughter of a famous movie couple. They ultimately vied for the most sought-after role—the “Crimson Goddess”. An equally important subplot is Maya’s relationship with the handsome and ruthless entertainment mogul Hayami Masumi, who secretly became her number one fan, but misunderstandings and bad-timings have obstructed their romance.

Avelys Notes: An excellent read. Probably will rate it higher once it’s completed. You watch the struggles of a young girl trying to become a famous actress. Pretty much an older and better version of Skip Beat. The way the MC develops her skill and adapts to different situations make this a very exciting read. She’s given different roles which test her and force her to overcome certain difficulties, she just keeps collecting these experiences until she becomes the very best. Seeing her in different roles is especially interesting since the roles are so different from one another. From watching her act as a character completely different from her personality, to Helen Keller (which required mastering not being able to see, speak or hear), to mastering how to be a doll that doesn’t move, etc. It wouldn’t be a shoujo without some romantic elements, and I feel like it does it very well. We’re introduced to this rich bachelor who helps her behind the scenes and keeps his identity hidden from her. This is done extremely well since it doesn’t take long for the MC to realize who it is–she has her suspicions pretty early on. But she doesn’t get consumed because of it because she focuses on her career. She is so strong and only has one goal in her mind. It’s really amazing how dedicated she is. Also, her rival was done very well. Instead of being a one dimensional evil person, the MC’s rival is so well developed that you even start respecting and liking her too. It’s not petty but a professional rivalry where they each encourage each other to improve. I recommend strongly for a lover of shoujo, since this has all the elements to comprise an excellent manga: romance, fun costumes, and bishies.
