Tomodachi no Hanashi

tomadachi1

Eiko is something of a plain Jane and a doormat, while her best friend Moe is a head-turning beauty. Despite their differences, their friendship is as strong as ever. Guys are always asking Moe out, but her answer is invariably “Only if you promise to put Eiko before me.”

Avelys Rating: 7.5/10

Avelys Notes: Friendship in manga are normally interactions with side characters who take up more of a role of giving advice than anything else. Sometimes we get to see their friends and their issues separate from the main character. This story was fresh in that it dealt with normal falling in love and relationships but with a very strong friendship element. You can even say it feels like this is the “ideal” friendship. Where two girls put their friend and their feelings before their own selfish desires. In this case, we have a plain protagonist who has a beautiful best friend who is firm in making sure any potential suitors know who’s the real important person in her life. A little immature and not well thought out, this felt like a relationship between two kindergartners who have not had any taste of reality and having their friendship tested. Situations where you seek for your own happiness, whether it is with a boyfriend or a hobby, etc. Don’t get me wrong, the fact that it didn’t feel realistic didn’t really bother me since I found it admirable. Of course, this would probably only exist in shoujo manga land. I enjoyed reading this due to the characters being well written. For such a short manga, I didn’t expect to feel so drawn to them (especially the male lead). Their motivations and actions were understood, made sense and explained very well. Recommend to anybody looking for a quick read with decent character development, and especially if you love nice art.

Sono Kare Shirabemasu (One Shot)

6/10 ::: This was a very adorable one shot, which followed two people following someone they believe is cheating. In the process of discovering the truth, they find love in the most unlikely of scenarios. The art was very adorable in this one shot. I noticed a lot of people, especially on tumblr, would be all over the art on this one shot in comparison to the main story.  The fashion on the characters is really appealing which makes sense since the characters are outside. The main story in comparison usually had their characters in uniform since it was primarily focused in the school setting. Overall, a cute read. A little forgettable but a nice bonus to the main story (unrelated characters).
