Nothing like the sweet fragrance of chocolates and shoujo sweetness to lure us out of our sleep. Valentine’s Day for me marks the aroma of youth, new love and excitement of what is to come in the future. That may mean a new relationship or a new friendship–but more importantly, new beginnings.
After taking a break from scanlation for a few months, due to going back to school, returning to scanlation has become quite a different experience. Many of my staff has come and gone, and the ones that stayed have been filled with new life events that have made them extremely busy. But it’s alright, because after all that is said and done–this is our hobby. This is not a job. That’s something I had to remind myself recently.
Disconnecting a hobby from an obligation provides a breath of fresh air in an otherwise stale environment. I used to get so caught up in the semantics of the script and the perfection of the quality. But honestly, at the end of the day–none of these things really matter. I myself don’t notice these tiny mistakes because I understand these are fan translated. As a person that abhors imperfection, it has been hard to come to terms with this. Putting more pressure on myself to provide excellent releases would just burn me out.
Now I’m going to take it easy, have fun and just focus on releasing a stable amount of releases on a regular basis. I have so much amazing chapters ready to release that my staff has tirelessly worked on. I feel incredibly guilty that my perfectionism has made me incapable to release seemingly perfect work. It’s perfect because of the love, sweat and tears put into them. And if there are a few mistakes here and there–who cares? The important thing is that we enjoy what we do and the readers get to enjoy it too. I apologize for this to take me so long to come to terms with. I beg for your forgiveness once again and hope to make you, dearest reader, have faith in this group again.
