Vitamin

vitamin3

High school student Sawako is caught in a compromising situation. As a result, the other students in her school bully and ostracize her to the point she looks to suicide and drops out of school. She starts drawing manga and the hobby becomes her “vitamin.”

Jatz Rating: 7/10
Jatz Notes: Reading the synopsis will, probably, tell you everything you need to know about Vitamin. It’s a pretty depressing story about a girl (Sawako) who is put in the incredibly uncomfortable position of being bullied by her classmates, with little to no support from her would be “friends”, boyfriend, family or teachers. Naturally, considering the 3 chapter length there isn’t much in the way of detail. I found myself feeling very sorry for Sawako, as there was nothing she did to deserve such harsh treatment (with the rumours being spread by people who were jealous of her). The feelings of discomfort only grow when we are shown Sawako on her own, contemplating on what she can do or who she can turn to. Many of us have probably come across bullying in some form, although we probably haven’t seen (much less felt) what the victim goes, through. Throughout the story you’ll develop a strong hatred for everyone besides Sawako, especially the students in her class, because they don’t seem to realise just how negative an effect their actions are having on Sawako. Which is what makes the conclusion oh so sweet. Unfortunately, the art isn’t particularly noteworthy. It’s serviceable, but there isn’t anything that sticks out. Overall, I’d recommend Vitamin to people who are into mature story lines that shy away from the usual shy girl finds cool guy romances story. There is also a very relevant moral of never giving up when you come up against adversity, in the shape of bullying or when it comes to your dreams.

Congrats to Jatz on posting his first review <3
This sounds like a pretty cool manga, especially after that lewd screenshot I almost added >//////< It looks like the same mangaka did "Life" which Candy also reviewed! Nice! Keep up the good work, Jatz.
