Blame!

blameMAIN

Killy is a man of few words. He wanders, seemingly endlessly, through a lonely, gargantuan labyrinth of concrete and steel, fighting off cyborgs and other futuristic nightmares, searching only for something called Net Terminal Genes. And he has a very powerful gun, which he uses without hesitation whenever anything resembling danger rears its ugly head.

Who is this quiet, violent, determined man and what are these Genes he seeks? The small communities he finds tucked into the crevices of this towering, dystopic ruin hardly give him leads on his treasure, driving him to find larger enclaves of civilization where people can reveal more about the world he lives in and the quarry he seeks.

Candy’s Rating: 8/10

Candy’s Notes: Yea, yea, I know this manga doesn’t belong anywhere near this site, that’s why it’s going to be hidden in my cute lil corner of happiness. Now boys and girls, you know how I love me some horror and dark ambience stories, so there’s no way I’m not gonna crave me some amazing ass seinens with delicious art and terrifyingly good plot. And that’s why Blame! was a necessary read for me. And as much as I enjoyed this story….well…..you’ll understand.

This was me reading this manga, “WTF IS GOING ON!!! I’m so confused. Why are you? Wait what’s happening? DAFUQ IS THE MEGASTRUCTURE!!!!”. Not gonna lie, I spent a fuck ton of time confused as F reading this manga because the way it’s made I guess? Basically there’s not a lot of talking. Things will not be explained simply, and if you miss a little detail, gg (as noticed when I realized I missed a chapter? and just could not figure out wtf was going). Turns out, I didn’t miss a chapter, I was honestly just that confused, THANKS. Due to that, don’t be like me and read in class while trying to look like I’m paying attention LOL. But besides that, well actually due to that, I really freaking liked this manga. I wasn’t expecting to as much as I did, but I seriously liked it. Even more so when I went and found out wtf was going on. Spoiler alert, I still don’t know what the fuck the megastructure is LOL. On the real though, this manga entertained the F outta me. The art is really detailed, so during those big action scenes where everything is going to hell, I could still tell whats going on (I usually can’t and that’s why i don’t read action manga).

You’d think with characters that barely talk, you wouldn’t get attached to them, but I loved Cibo and Dhomo, and I miss them already ;——;. Speaking of characters, this manga has a lot that you should probably pay attention too, because they do reappear later after you thought they were gone (hey Sankana, I’m looking straight at you bby girl), but also they give you huge pieces of information regarding the genes Killy is looking for and why he’s looking for them. From what I’ve understood, the genes he’s looking for are necessary to stop The City and it’s like rapid expansion. To do that, he has to fight off safeguards that are programmed to kill humans, the ones who would have the genes Killy needs, Silicone liffe (I don’t know the difference between these things),  Executioners, and even builders. I.e. Killy is in for a long, exhausting, painful journey.

Painful doesn’t even begin to describe it though. I can’t even count how many times Killy was covered in wounds, blood, had missing body pieces, and oh, lets not forget the time he regenerated his whole fucking skull!! And this is why we need Cibo. Killy spends a lot of his time literally in action scenes since he’s quikc to pull the trigger, meaning Cibo has to go off and get shet done., but god damn this woman. She has died like 4 times+ in this manga by losing her body, losing her body, getting taken over, kidnapping, losing her body. She can’t keep her body lol. Love that ho though. She basically laid things out to us because Killy like hates talking or something, iono.

The best thing to me about this manga though was it’s setting. It’s story and world had soooo much going on it. The cyberpunk image was so freaking cool and gave great atmospheric vibes. Like omg, honestly, some of the designs are just too on point. Some get so terrifying I’m literally going DAFUQ IS THAAAAT, NOOO, and some are like, I’d wear that! Lol. It also gives this super intricate plot that’s actually really basic, but the way it’s executed makes it seem like soooo much is going on and it just engages you. The chapters are short so you’ll speed through them like “DOES HE GET THE GENES OR NAH!” and then BOOM! you’re at the ending going “wtf, it’s over?”. Yup, that’s the last page, cuts off completely open after watching Killy go through some beautiful (image wise) scenes. I’m sure there’s a crap ton of stuff I missed here and A crap ton that I didn’t even talk about but that’s fine. I’m literally just here to tell you to go read this great manga if you like intricate art, great story, amazing setting, a crap ton of information you may have to put together yourself, attention to detail, and BAMF ass mofos. You’re welcome <3 Get ready to be ohhh so confused.
