Synopsis

After being devastated in the third World War (known as The Third Division), Japan was divided in two. Several years after the end of the war, a crime organization called Vischio has taken control of the destroyed city of Toshima (formerly Tokyo, Japan’s capital city), where they are holding a battle game known as “Igura.” The main character, a young man named Akira, is falsely accused of a crime. Once arrested, a mysterious woman appears before him, offering him freedom if he agrees to participate in Igura and defeat Igura’s strongest man: the king, or “Il-re.” The story follows Akira’s life in the harsh, lawless Toshima as he fights both to survive and to unravel the mysteries developing around him.

Review – Candy

Another otome vn adaption….what could possibly go wrong here? Oh sweet Jesus, literally everything, and not in the “so bad its funny” way, but just the plain “KILL IT WITH FIRE” way.

I personally haven’t played the game, but I was around watching my friend when she played it, so I’m pretty sure I can say this adaption itself is just overall shit. The orginal game is pre good, depending on the type of crap you’re into. It has a nice little plot, that throws random boys and sex in. Oh did I mention this is a boys love one? Welp, now I have. No ladies allowed (I think there’s one somewhere). Then you have all the ends with….okay there’s some really fucked endings for the punt of work you did, but whatever, that’s an otome game for ya. Point is, source material is not utter trash, this anime adoption is.

Why is it such trash you ask? First and foremost imma get this outta the way, THEY LITERALLY REMOVE ALL THE ROMANCE AND BL! Yes, they adapted a boys love vn, and then removed that entire aspect. You won’t find any kissing, fucking, confessions, or even hugging in this adaption (may have lied about the hugging). Instead you’ll get a mad amount of sexual tension and sexual metaphors that’;l just make you feel kinda awkward. Like on the real, I’m pretty sure characters are about to explode from not being able to perform their ONE FUCKING ROLE IN THE STORY!!!! Like, there’s no way in hell you adapted this for its plot, it’s honestly not good enough to stand on its own, yet that’s all you adapted….and horribly at that. They clearly wanted this to turn into shit, and shit it indeed turned into. This show had major budget issues. They’re apparent throughout the entire show, but it’s waaaaaaaay too apparent during the last episodes when there’s literally a fight going on, and all we see are still images of buildings while we hear the battle sounds! Close your eyes, it sounds like something we should’ve had in the show if ya know what I mean -winky face-

With a low-budget comes a bunch of issues. the art is basic, the animation is trash, the sounds are at minimal level, but at least it has a bunch of ending songs…woot! Like need I go on? Honestly, why did they even attempt this? Like the characters don’t get fleshed out, the plot is a cluttering of a hot unexplained mess, and art and animation are so utterly trash that the blood and EVERYTHING in this damn show looks so unrealistic it’s not even funny. It tries so hard to be edgy, using a bunch of metaphors and convoluted talking that apparently is supposed to mean some deep shit (HAAAA, IT LITERALLY MEANS NOTHING!), only to come out looking like a fresh turd my dog used minimal force to produce.

Oh god, mentioning the plot…the fucking plot man! Its plot is weak already and then you add very little explanation of wtf is going on, it literally becomes pointless. I swear, we’re watching this guy forced into this game and he makes friends, beats the bad guy? And goes home? Tags are involved? Drugs ruin people and turn them into the hulk? -insert sad pointless backstories here- Idk anymore man. See what I’m saying?!?! Shit is actually pointless because nothing is fucking explained. It’s basically like they’re flashing images on the screen saying this somehow makes sense. Omg best fucking example and best way to describe this whole show.  Literally I would start an episode and think I skipped the previous an episode because the end of that one and the beginning of the current one DID NOT CONNECT AT ALL!!! Literally, locations would change, people who were there would change, and we would be given no explanation of what happened in between or why. It’s literally the dumbest shit you could possibly do. If you don’t have the budget to make the show even make sense, DON’T FUCKING MAKE IT!!! on the real, without the synopsis, bet you 10 bucks you’ll literally have ZERO clue what’s going on in this show. Maybe this was made just for the fans of the vn since at least they’ll know what’s going on, but that’s a whole nother fuck over (fans will hate it since it’s shit in every meaning of the word).

The only positive I can think of in this show is literally the bat shit insane characters (mostly gunji, he’s fucking life!). I love me some crazy, and oh we had plenty of that because literally none of them got explained! They throw them on the screen, someone says like one line, and they proceed to act like someone important. Dear god, the main villain was literally just a sexual deviant, but when you remove the sexual from the show, he a literally just a creeper with a bondage love, like what sense is made here!?! Also, bro going pretty yan made my day too haha. They literally just tried to go down the sadistic men route (seriously, apparently Japan believes girls love these type of men) and then the silent, lonely, brooding guy route. Shiki was like….so utterly nonexistent in this show, when he’s like the main route. Like they did him soooooo dirty. Point is, most the characters have one thing going for em, they’re crazy, or bland and crazy, not much depth to these plebs. Swing your weapon more please, maybe it’ll make you important in the show! (pssst, it won’t, at all. You’re welcome.)

So why on earth did I watch this horrible train wreck!? I honestly believed they would finish or follow a route, reveal something at the end, have a grand party of my success of defeating this piece of trash, ANYTHING POSITIVE WOULD HAPPEN. Heads up, they don’t, not a single route is explored or followed and you get the whackest end….and I think that one guy died…idk. Anyway, it’s basically a bs friendship ending that honestly is not worth the madness of watching this show and you get no party at the end, no sense of accomplishment or sense of success, only a deep sickening of animators and pleb ass shows.

I know I’ve ranted about things being horrible before, but at least they’d have some redeeming factors. This literally doesn’t…at all. If you’re into crazy men, or anything that’s in this show,  there’s much better things to watch.

Just don’t watch it, for any reason, unless you like buildings fighting, then gosh darnit go love this show!
